Operetta by Jacques Offenbach

The Viceroy of Peru enjoys revelling among his subjects incognito. Roaming through the streets of the capital, he falls in love with the poor street singer Prichole, whom he contrives to bring to his palace as a concubine. Since an unmarried woman is forbidden at Court, he needs a husband for her − and seems to have found one in Prichole's fianc, Piquillo. But Piquillo refuses to play along with the Viceroys insidious plan of turning him into a cuckold.

With La Prichole, another masterpiece of Jacques Offenbach is being added to the programme of the State Operetta. South American folklore and enchanting French melodies promise to make it a worthwhile discovery.
