Beijing is a reflection of China itself, steeped in history from the very ancient to more modern events. This tour starts at Tian'anmen Square and China's more recent history influenced by Chairman Mao and the rise of communism. From there it's on to the Forbidden City, originally commissioned by Emperor Yong Le in the Ming Dynasty. It has been the seat of power for centuries and has seen countless battles and reconstruction, and the architecture seen today dates from the 1700's. The Forbidden City is also known as the Imperial Palace Museum, with all the art and splendor available for you to see.
After a delicious meal, it's on to the Temple of Heaven. Temple of Heaven is China's largest temple and altar complex, an extraordinary example of religious architecture dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Your final destination has been the retreat of emperors for 800 years, the Summer Palace. One of Beijing's finest parks surrounds the palace, and you explore the grounds, the temples and the world's longest art gallery. We will break up your busy day with scenic bus rides plus an unbeatable shopping experience at the Pearl Market.
