Imperial Orchester Xmas & New Year
House of Beethovenplatz
Vienna
Austria
Thu, 18th December 2008 - Fri, 2nd January 2009
VIENNA IMPERIAL HALL The house at Beethoven Platz 1 was built by the dome constructor and architect of the Vienna town hall, Friedrich Schmidt. The glorious architecture of the magnificent, neo-gothic Imperial Hall is captivating and provides an unsurpassable sound experience.
Austria is truly indebted to composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and ‘waltz king’ Johann Strauss for transforming its capital, Vienna into a city that draws tourists from all over the world.
Every year millions of art and culture enthusiasts flock to the magnificent concert halls of the musical capital of the world.
Nothing can describe the Viennese way of life with all of its facets quite so precisely as the works of the composers at the time of the Golden and Silver operatic eras.
What makes the Viennese who they are, such as their unique charm and particular humour is reflected in this most Viennese music, which makes such pieces so very difficult to learn and replicate. To preserve this tradition, members of the greatest Viennese orchestras came together and formed the Vienna Imperial Orchestra.
* “There is only one imperial city – there is only one Vienna” (J. Strauss)
* With over 100 musicians to call upon, the Vienna Imperial Orchestra (WIO) maintains tradition and gives performances in orchestra halls for eight to fourteen musicians. Such concerts rightly belong at the peak of the Viennese music scene.
