New York City’s Only Traditional Afternoon Tea in Garden Setting!
To combat the energy draining effects of New York’s hot, humid summer weather, Tavern on the Green is inaugurating a rejuvenating, not to mention oh-so-civilized, tradition – afternoon tea under a cooling canopy of London plane trees in the landmark restaurant’s flower bower of a garden.
Available daily, offers the age-old restorative properties of what is (next to water) the world’s most consumed beverage. At Tavern on the Green that sense of well being historically associated with drinking tea is complemented by the visual pleasure of hand picked and bundled organic premium flowering teas that, during the steeping process in cunning glass pots, literally blossom into a bouquet of breathtaking shapes.
The Numi white, green, oolong and black tea selections are accompanied by an assortment of tea sandwiches, such as: smoked salmon with lemon dill butter on black bread; cucumber, watercress and Boursin on wheat bread; and curry coronation chicken salad on white bread. House made scones served with Devonshire cream and raspberry jam provide a traditional touch, while the sinful presentation of fruit tarts, cookies and other sweet treats from Tavern’s pastry kitchen tops off the re-energizing repast.
An intriguing alternative to conventional lunch or brunch, afternoon tea also represents a delightful forum for post-matinee discussions or as a prelude to post-show dinner.
Tea at Tavern is served Monday through Friday from Noon to 4:30 p.m ; Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Reservations are not required, simply present your Keith Prowse voucher at the front desk to be seated.
In the event of inclement weather (or as necessary due to the changing of the seasons) Tea at Tavern will be served in the Upstairs Bar.
