Madam Butterfly
The Coliseum
London
United Kingdom
Fri, 12th June 2009 - Fri, 10th July 2009

As a tribute to acclaimed director Anthony Minghella, his breathtaking production of Madam Butterfly returns to the London Coliseum in 2009.
Described by The Sunday Telegraph as ‘the most beautiful show in operatic London’, this production sold out it’s three previous runs and has astonished audiences with it’s sumptuous sets and costumes.
Puccini’s exquisite music underscores the emotional tale of a young Japanese geisha girl’s (‘Butterfly’) love for a callous American naval lieutenant, whilst the vibrant colours and references to Far Eastern theatre traditions adds exoticism to this tragic love story.
Judith Howarth will reprise her much-praised performance in the title role and Christine Rice will sing the part of Suzuki. ENO Music Director, Edward Gardner, will conduct Puccini’s heart-rending score.
