BOHEMIA SAXOPHONE QUARTET

The saxophone quartet is an ensemble which has already taken its place along side other traditional chamber groups.

Nearly all musical styles are open to it, thanks to the wide range of expressive possibilities at its disposal.

Bohemia Saxophone Quartet explores this broad palette in their performance of original compositions for four saxophones, pieces originally intended for other instrumentations, and music from the jazz repertoire.

The rich variety of the pieces in their repertoire enables Bohemia Saxophone Quartet to perform not only in concert halls, but also in "alternative" and jazz venues as well. The unaffected musicality of their performances and their openness to diverse styles has attracted the attention of several composers, who have written more than forty pieces for the ensemble. Since Bohemia Saxophone Quartet's beginning in 1990 the ensemble has taken part in many important international music festivals, and in 1998 the group was a finalist in the competition IX. Concours International de Musique de Chambre de Paris. They have played concert tours throughout the countries of Europe, as well as in the USA, Israel, Jordan, Tunisia, Lebanon and Indonesia.
Bohemia Saxophone Quartet plays the Selmer saxophones with the

Vandoren mouthpieces, ligatures and reeds.

Other Information
The Klementinum was founded in 1232, but it was not until the Jesuits began to build a Catholic seat of learning in the 16th and 17th centuries that the buildings began to take shape. In 1773, the buildings were handed over to the university authorities. Today, the complex houses the Chapel of Mirrors - built in 1724 and reconstructed in 1997 - which is primarily used for classical concerts, and the Music Library. It is located just by Charles Bridge on the Old Town side.
