Don Giovanni
Stavovské divaldo (Estates Theatre)
Prague
Czech Republic
Mon, 3rd November 2008 - Tue, 30th December 2008

The performance is a reworking of the legendary production which had its stage premiere at today’s Estates Theatre on 7th February 1969 and was the work of two excellent Czech operatic artists: the director Václav Kašlík and the set designer Josef Svoboda. The production remained in the repertoire with a short pause until 1983, i.e. until the Estates Theatre underwent reconstruction. The set design, which works with the elements of the Estates Theatre’s auditorium and allows the proscenium boxes to continue towards the stage as the main component of the decoration, makes phenomenal use of the fact that we are at the venue of the world premiere of this “opera of operas”, in the very theatre where it was first performed on 29th October 1787 under the baton of its composer.
Orchestra, Choir and Ballet of the National Theatre Opera
The opera is staged in Italian original version and Czech and English surtitles are used in the performance.
