Tennessee Williams' classic drama, performed in Czech.
A bitter play with a drop of sentiment whose heroes are not able to come to terms with the incomprehensible cruelty of time. Tennessee Williams presents a picture of corruption, violence and emotional staleness in which the desire for power and property controls and maims human lives. The southern magnate Boss Finley propels his daughter Heavenly into relationships which support his political interests. When he discovers that she is having an affair with the young Chance Wayne, he drives him from the city. The play opens at the moment when this lover returns after a number of years as a tired gigolo with a former film actress who is running away from herself and her ageing. Wayne feels that he no longer has anything to lose and he suicidally endeavours to re-establish a relationship with the love of his life. Even though Chance Wayne is no scapegoat, his personal tragedy becomes an indictment of provincial bigotry which cripples people both mentally and, gradually, physically.
