Rome was once the centre of the world, and the Roman Forum and Colosseum were at the centre of this great ancient city. Walk with us past the funeral pyre of Ceasar, mentioned by Shakespeare, and walk on stones that emperors and saints alike must have touched. Learn more about the connection between the Church and the city and find out how the two are beautifully connected as your local guide talks about the last days in the lives of Saints Peter and Paul and the connection between St. Lawrence and the Temple of Antoninus Pius and Faustina. Well walk directly past the Arch of Titus and talk about the sober destruction of Jerusalem and subsequent Diaspora. Not to be missed amongst the ruins is one of the most famous landmarks in the world: The Colosseum. Well talk about the different schools of gladiators, what place they held in Roman society, and why the Colosseum held significance not only as an entertainment complex, but how it played a pivotal role in Romes political climate at the time.
