Causa Carmen
Národní Divadlo (National Theatre)
Prague
Czech Republic
Fri, 7th November 2008 - Tue, 11th November 2008

The performance consists of two different one-act ballets. In the first part of the evening, the creative duo of Johan Greben from Holland and Uri Ivgi from Israel will present a new original choreography created for the National Theatre Ballet Company. This duo has already created a number of very high quality and distinctive works for various ensembles all over the world. Their creative endeavours have their roots in the stormy and dynamic development of the contemporary dance theatre of the last ten years. The second part of the evening will include a performance of the ballet Carmen from the workshop of the choreographer and director Mats Ek – one of the most significant representatives of current dance theatre. This author of Swedish extraction has to date created approximately forty full-length and shorter narrative and abstract ballets. He has distanced himself from the classic Mérimée–Bizet version and developed this emotional drama played out between a man and a woman in a new manner. His Carmen is endowed with the properties of both a dishonourable fraudster and a strong, independent woman who follows her innermost feelings.
