You’ll receive a truly warm welcome at Britannia’s Visitor Centre in Ocean Terminal before you step on board, here you can view displays and historic photographs that detail Britannia’s fascinating past.

The captivating handset tour takes you round five decks at a leisurely pace and is a rare glimpse into the public and private lives of the British Royal Family. From Sir Winston Churchill to Boris Yeltsin, Rajiv Gandhi to Nelson Mandela, some of the world’s most influential people were welcomed on board. Now you are free to see what they saw, to stand where they stood.

Every part of Britannia includes rich treasures to enjoy. Almost all the pieces in the State Apartments are on loan from The Royal Collection, with kind permission of Her Majesty The Queen. Elsewhere you will see artefacts from the previous Royal Yachts, including the fabulous silver in the Officers’ Wardroom. You will have a chance to see the working side of the ship, from the once sweltering heat of the laundry to the crew’s densely packed quarters.

Tour highlights include the State Drawing Room, The Queen’s Bedroom, the Sun Lounge and the Admiral’s cabin.

Our award-winning gift shop has exclusive gifts and popular Britannia souvenirs, as distinctive as Britannia herself.

Britannia is berthed alongside the stylish Ocean Terminal shopping centre which contains a choice of over 80 different boutiques, high-street shops and restaurants with scenic waterfront views. The Royal Yacht Britannia is one of the world's most famous ships. Launched at John Brown's Shipyard in Clydebank in 1953, the Royal Yacht proudly served Queen and country for forty-four years. During that time Britannia carried The Queen and the Royal Family on 968 official voyages, from the remotest regions of the South Seas to the deepest divides of Antarctica.

At the beginning of January 1997, Britannia set sail from Portsmouth to Hong Kong on her last and longest voyage. On 11 December 1997 Britannia was decommissioned at Portsmouth Naval Base in the presence of The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and fourteen senior members of The Royal Family.

Four months later, after intense competition from cities around the UK, the Government announced that Edinburgh was successful in its bid to become Britannia's new home. She is now owned by The Royal Yacht Britannia Trust, a charitable organisation whose sole remit is the maintenance of Britannia in keeping with her former role. Britannia is now permanently moored in Edinburgh's historic port of Leith and visitors can step on board the ship that was once home to the world's most famous family.
