Thay Phuong & Thay Pagoda
Tour East
Hanoi
Vietnam
Sun, 7th September 2008 - Tue, 31st March 2009
Highlight:
Travel to the nearby highlands of Hoa Binh Province and visit the stilted village of Mai Chau to interact with the friendly and colourful minority tribes including Thai ethnic groups.
Program:
We drive through the flat green countryside to the mountainous region of Hoa Binh, 130km North-west of Hanoi. After a break at Hoa Binh town we continue to the Cun Mountain range to have a panoramic view of the villages at Mai Chau before descending onto the villages. Along the way, watch the stilt wooden houses with thatch roofs, local vendors carrying heavy loads of fire wood, bamboo mats, fruits and vegetables and school children line the road to Mai Chau to welcome you with their friendly smiles and curiosity. At the village, you will have the opportunity to inter-mingle and learn of their time tested communal ways of living in the mountains –the central kitchen, the brocade weaving shop, their homes where each has its own pond to breed their own fish and gardens to provide the colours. A local lunch will be served at one of the long houses. After lunch and a short break, join the guide for a 3 hour trek to Poong Cooc village before return to Hanoi late in the evening.
Note: The best day to visit Mai Chau is on a Sunday where the various tribes would gather at the central market to trade their fruits and vegetable, housewives shopping for daily wares, men gossip, children play and lovers meet.
