Mozart's famous "Opera of Operas", Don Giovanni is wonderfully transformed into classic marionette theatre. Puppet shows are somewhat of a tradition in Prague and Don Giovanni is consistently rated as the most popular production.
Mozart composed the original Don Giovanni opera especially for Prague, where he personally conducted the first performance at the famous Estates Theatre in 1787. This marionette theatre version tells the classic tale with tall puppets dressed in authentic 18th century period costume. The whole production pays homage to the Mozart era and is a joy to experience.

Act I begins: Seville in the 1600s.
At night, outside the Commendatore's palace, Leporello grumbles about his duties as servant to Don Giovanni, a dissolute nobleman. Soon the masked Don appears, pursued by Donna Anna, the Commendatore's daughter, whom he has tried to seduce. When the Commendatore himself answers Anna's cries, he is killed in a duel by Giovanni, who escapes. Anna now returns with her fiancé, Don Ottavio. Finding her father dead, she makes Ottavio swear vengeance on the assassin..…

The National Puppet Theatre presents this exceptional opera in a unique classic marionette theatre version, in period costumes and on a large marionette stage. Combinations of traditional baroque stage mechanism, with marionette puppets and live actors interact under the title "Magic Theatre of Baroque World" provide a very entertaining evening understandable by all languages and cultures
