The story of the conductor Mazort is set in the last decade of the twentieth century. The personal career of a not overly convincing artist is formed and deformed in the world of polarised ideology, while his personal life has become entangled in a secret web of powerful interests. Pavel Kohout tells the story by means of anti-illusory theatre. At the virtual Spider Hotel, which can be considered to be an objectified projection of the conscience, Mazort reconstructs his career as an artist and a husband.
