THE HISTORY
The Fleurieu has the land, the produce, the wildlife and its people living in harmony. The aboriginal Kauna people enjoyed the unspoilt habitat in ancient times. As did the French explorer Baudin who named the Peninsula. The rolling vine-covered hills in the McLaren Vale region, in the centre of the region, feed over 50 small, very individual wineries. The region’s wines are described as the middle palate of Australia because they produce soft full-flavoured wines. The vineyards snake down to the tumbling surf on the coast, where sea creatures such as whales and penguins thrive. The area enjoys a Mediterranean type climate influenced by the St. Vincent’s Gulf only 6 km away.

THE TOUR
The tour departs Adelaide and first takes us south to the picturesque McLaren Vale Wine Region dotted over 50 small to medium wineries. It is situated near the coast hence the area has a distinctly Mediterranean feel. Tours of the McLaren Vale wine region feature some of the most beautiful scenery in the state. Wineries include Wirra Wirra, d’Arenberg, Coriole and the historic Hardy’s winery. Other attractions include the Olive Grove and Medlow Fine Gels.

We head south to the coastal town of Goolwa, once a thriving paddle steamer port. Then enjoy lunch at the charming Flying Fish Café overlooking the sea.

After lunch we travel on the beach up to the Mouth of the River and travel to scenic lookouts in search of the Southern Right Whales that visit our shores with their newborn calves from June onwards.

We call into Victor Harbor and take a ride on Australia’s only horse-drawn tram along the causeway, which links the mainland to Granite Island. See the fascinating fairy penguins through an interpretive center or view them at dusk as they make their way back to the island.

Return to Adelaide that afternoon or option to stay in charming B&B in coastal towns of Goolwa or Victor Harbour and connect with the Sealink Ferry over to Kangaroo Island.

This is an exclusive opportunity to visit such special places - to see the wonderful scenery, taste the wines, tempt your palate with some of the State's finest gourmet restaurants and simply indulge in all the things which make South Australia great.

Includes: Experienced wine tour guide/driver*, wine & tourism information kit, pre & post-tour assistance, wine tastings, refreshments en-route & gourmet lunch

Important: Please note that this tour needs a minimum of 2 passengers to guarantee departure.

*Our guides are trained in wine and tourism with background training at Roseworthy Agricultural College and from within the Wine Industry.

A Taste of Australia representative will call you the night prior to your tour to find out your interest in wines.

From the beautiful and spectacular coastline to the majestic peaks and simmering deserts of the Flinders Ranges and the Outback, South Australia is full of wonder. But beyond the hospitality of its friendly people, there is another special ingredient, which makes up the essence of South Australia. It's wines.

South Australia is the Wine State and for generations its people have been bottling the gift of the world famous Barossa Valley, fertile Clare Valley, the lush cool Adelaide Hills, the picturesque McLaren Vale and the rich recesses of the Coonawarra in the South East.
