Opera comique by Georges Bizet
Corporal Don Jos becomes a smuggler and outsider to win the love of the gypsy Carmen. When he starts to view her as his property, though, she abandons him for the torero Escamillo.
Infuriated and deeply disappointed, Don Jos seeks a final encounter with free-loving Carmen − with lethal consequences Smugglers, soldiers and bull-fighters in light-hearted and folkloric scenes alternate with more lyrical and dramatic passages.
The result is a colourful pageant between the love of life and the longing for death. Carmen, the timeless opera by Georges Bizet, is performed by the State Operetta in the original version with German dialogues.
